POLICY ON EXTENDED LEAVE

RATIONALE
To outline a clear process for application for and granting of leave.
AIMS

To avoid disruption of students

To allow staff to engage in either professional or personal development activities during the year.
GUIDELINES

The Board shall use its best endeavors to accommodate applications for leave.

A short term reliever who is employed for no more than six weeks, may be approved by the Principal.

The staff member shall make application for leave of more than six weeks in writing to the Board at least 10 weeks before the commencement of the period of leave.

Leave may be granted either with or without pay.

When considering an application for leave the Board must always be satisfied that:

Adequate substitution for the staff member is available.

Special circumstances which might arise in relation to staffing, during the period of leave sought, have been brought to the notice of the Board.

When considering an application for leave with pay the Board must be satisfied that the leave sought is related to a school activity or professional development.
