Tamariki School

Policy on community communication and consultation

TAMARIKI SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES

POLICY ON COMMUNITY COMMUNICATION AND CONSULTATION

NAG 6

RATIONALE
Communication within our community is a valued and essential aspect of the Special Character of Tamariki School.

AIMS
To keep everyone in touch with what goes on at the school.
To pass on messages concerning special or extra activities of the school.
To facilitate maximum parent involvement in decision making, and encourage ownership of the process of communication by all members of the school community.
To allow any member to communicate with the whole School community on any matter of concern.

GUIDELINES
The School will produce a regular newsletter summarising School activities, BoT and Society news. Included in newsletter is updated phone number and email addresses of community, (subject to consent).
The BoT proceeding will be posted on a designated noticeboard, following each meeting and back copies of the minutes will be available from the secretary.
Sufficient space on designated noticeboard will be set aside at School for the posting of interesting or relevant information by any member of the School community.
From time to time the Board or Principal will initiate meetings to explore and resolve matters of interest and concern in a manner consistent with the Special Character of Tamariki School.
Any other member of the community is welcome to call a special meeting on matters of interest or concern to her/him.

CONCLUSION
Because channels of communication are much more fluid and informal than in many other education institutions, ongoing consultation between the BoT and the rest of the Tamariki School Community is an intrinsic part of the Special Character of Tamariki School.
